+ Building Information Modeling (BIM)

TRO JB is a recognized leader in the utilization of building information modeling (BIM). BIM-enabled technology saves time and money as a powerful design tool and a significant value-added resource for ongoing use.

Beyond the mere ease of 3-D representation, valuable analysis tools can be ‘piggybacked’ onto the Revit model, allowing for powerful analysis of energy consumption, daylighting and other sustainability features. BIM models and analytical tools allow quick comparison of various concepts to inform large scale decisions early in the design phase and help guide programming and operational decisions after project completion.

+ Energy Management

From the earliest phases of concept development, the total-building design approach to energy management utilizes proven energy strategies to create sustainable environments that produce a positive long-term return on initial investment. TRO JB explores the life cycle costs and benefits of energy and resource management options such as:

• Sustainable site development
• Clean technology
• Energy efficiency
• Water conservation
• Indoor air quality
• Natural lighting
• Eco-friendly materials

+ Evidence Based Design (EBD)

The incorporation of Evidence Based Design, which links the environment of care to clinical outcomes, has been proven to contribute to the well-being of staff, patients and their families. TRO JB’s healthcare design approach creates environments that respond efficiently and effectively to the functional and operational program while also incorporating the latest research and methodology related to design for healing. Major contributors to patient-centered care include:

• Clear wayfinding
• Access to nature
• Family accommodation
• Private rooms
• Patient choice
• Enhanced amenities

+ Idea Driven Design (IDD)

Design at TRO JB begins as a process of discovery. Our integrated team collects and analyzes data, then explores ideas and options with the client. Regardless of the scale of the project, no idea, problem or need is considered too small to include as part of a potential solution.

Our clients appreciate the practical approach we take to design, and to resolving tough issues during the design phase. By asking the right questions and considering a wide and sometimes conflicting set of objectives, we resolve problems early. And because key stakeholder needs are addressed and consensus built, the design solution is inclusive rather than exclusive. Value is central to the design, both in the short-term cost of building and long-term efficiency of operations and maintenance.

+ Integrated Project Delivery (IPD)

TRO JB has both large-scale and small-scale experience with delivering projects through true three-party IPD agreements, IPD “light”, and project-specific collaboration methodologies. Our collaborative delivery process builds value, controls risk, and creates predictable outcomes for our clients and our collaboration partners.

Our experience includes teaming on the largest healthcare project in the northeast with a single contract, full IPD delivery. The firm’s core culture as an integrated A/E/P service firm, and our tradition of bringing together multiple disciplines as a single entity, leads us to embrace IPD’s application of shared risk and reward, collocation and team accountability.

+ Lean Design

TRO JB utilizes Lean Process techniques to assist clients in creating facilities that are efficient to operate while also providing optimal care. Our Certified Lean / Six Sigma Greenbelt staff facilitate Lean events to ensure that the building design promotes the preferred operational model. Specific Lean tools applied on past projects include Rapid Improvement Events, Future State Mapping, Performance Failure Mode Analysis, and full scale Lean 2P events.

We work with clients to determine what Lean events might be most appropriate to address within the scope and timeframe of each project. For TRO JB clients, Lean Design translates into efficient, streamlined facilities that continue to deliver measurable cost savings and patient satisfaction.
